Summer is usually vacation season and it can seem impossible to find a sandal that is both cute and comfortable. If you opt for fashion you likely won’t be able to walk more than 10 feet without twisting your ankle or getting a blister or two. Going for comfort? Might as well wear a couple of burlap sacks on your feet. Luckily for you guys I’ve found a bunch of sandals where you don’t have to sacrifice comfort or style and since no one sandal is best for everyone I’ve included sandals that offer cushioning, support or a minimal profile so you can find what’s right for you. Check out this list of the best women’s sandals for travel and be sure to pack a pair on your next trip.

Birkenstock Gizeh
The Birkenstock Gizeh is my go-to summer sandal. Birkenstock takes it’s famously comfortable cork footbed and adds a cute t-strap styling making the Gizeh perfect for everything from walking on the beach to exploring the cobblestone streets of Europe. While the Gizeh comes in a wide vareity of neutrals I’m particularly fond of the metallic silver which looks great with shorts and sundresses. If you get one pair of sandals this summer make it these.
Nisolo Serena Sandal
I’m a huge fan of Nisolo’s classic styling as well as well as their commitment to good wages and insurance for their craftsmen in Peru, Mexico and Kenya. The Serena sandal offers a minimalist design with just the right amount of cushioning making the Serena a sandal you can truly feel good about wearing this summer.
Vionic Kirra
Finding a sandal that is both cute and comfortable used to be impossible for someone with arch issues but Vionic comes to the rescue with the Kirra. Vionic’s patented Orthoheel technology was developed by a team of doctors and physical therapists and offer both support and style.
Born Tripoli
Whether you’re exploring the streets of Rome or hitting your favorite music festival the Born Tripoli will have you taking on the summer. This gorgeous gladiator sandal features Born’s sumptuously cushioned footbed and soft full-grain leather provide all day comfort along with on-trend style.
Keen Whisper
My pick for the best adventure sandal the Keen Whisper is perfect for hiking and kayaking. A covered toe on this water friendly sandal protects your tootsies while an anti-microbial foot bed eliminates odor.
Sanuk Yoga Sling Ella
For comfort and style at the beach you can’t go wrong with the Yoga Sling Ella by Sanuk. The foot bed of this sandal is made from yoga mat material and the soft fabric straps add another level of zen. Did I mention they are also machine-washable?
Naot Marita
Naot is synonymous with comfort and the Marita takes the traditional gladiator sandal to another level. The cork foot bed molds to your arch over time providing a customized fit while the hook and loop ankle fastener make putting the Marita on a breeze compared to wrap style gladiator sandals.
Merrell Siren Flip Q2
As a physical therapist I’m not a fan of the cheapy plastic $5 flip flops, they are absolutely horrible for your feet! Now the Merrell Siren Flip Q2, with it’s molded EVA footbed and comfotable neoprene-lined straps? Those are flip-flops I can absolutely stand behind (and you should absolutely stand on).
Aerosoles Lilac Plush
These strappy wedges from Aerosoles are the perfect sandals for any summer wedding or party. The ankle ties can be changed out for buckles giving you some styling options and memory foam lets you stand for hours in comfort.
TOMS Camilia Sandal
Can’t handle too high of a heel but still need something a bit dressy? Then TOMS Camilia sandals are for you. A low profile block heel adds just the right amount of elegance and as always TOMS donates a pair of shoes to a child in need with every purchase.
Cole Haan Anica Thong
Cole Haan is famous for combining comfort and style. The Anica Thong has light padding that seems to hug your foot with every step while crisscrossed straps pprovide support as well as style.

I have to have comfortable – and breathable – shoes when I travel. And many of these are in my closet already. But those Naots look amazing! I just may have to grab a new pair!

This is such a helpful list! I have the Keens and have worn them throughout Europe, Southeast Asia and South America for watersports, hiking and even walking around cities (I like that they cover your toes). I’ve been eyeing the Vionic Kirra and the Sanuk for my next trip(s) because they are a little more versatile.
