Female Travelers over Forty You Need to Follow on Instagram
Let’s face it, Instagram is filled with fresh-faced ingenues in flowing dresses looking wistfully into the sunset (for the fourth time this week, because #blessed) and obsessing over their rainbow-colored lattes in the newest cat cafe in Tokyo. Ladies, keep doing what you do as Instagram obviously loves you, but after joining the over forty club earlier this year I’m drawing my travel inspiration from a different set of women. Members of Generation X, baby boomers and beyond; these globetrotting gals prove that you don’t have to hang up your floppy hat and put away your sense of adventure once the clock strikes forty. Whether they are balancing a love of travel with a 9-to-5 corporate job, traveling with kids in tow or making the most of their golden years; these women show that travel just gets better after forty. For more travel inspiration follow these fabulous female travelers over forty on Instagram.

Wrapping up a month-long journey that involved two continents and one ocean… throwing it back to where it all began, in one of my favorite cities in one of my favorite countries. 🇨🇴 #Cartagena #igerscolombia #igcolombia #ig_colombia #colombiatravel #meettheworld #postcardsfromtheworld #travellushes #traveldudes #pinkpangea #mybudgettravel

The zenana (women’s quarters) of Fatehpur Sikri was a very special place. It housed 3 wives of Mughal Emperor Akbar: one Muslim, one Hindu, one Christian. Akbar deliberately married women from 3 different faces to unite the country and demonstrate tolerance and acceptance. This was in the mid 16th century. A man ahead of his time. I’m always excited to visit Fatehpur Sikri because it’s a beautiful, evocative place haunted with romance and history. One of my favourite stops on the @maharajas_express India Panorama tour. I’ve tried skiing a few times, but it’s not my thing. That doesn’t mean I don’t love visiting ski resorts in the winter! Especially for all the other things there are to do and special moments like this one at @MontTremblant. With all the hype, I was worried that this grand UNESCO World Heritage site might not live up to its reputation. Never fear! It was just as magical, mysterious and wonderful as I was hoping. #adventuresmith #boomersinperu All along the road up, I could see the ancient stairs, ladders and steep pathways my daughter had climbed when she visited 10 years ago. Now I had reached the peak in her hiking boots and completed the circle. Inspiration comes from many places and while I always wanted to get here, I thank @mabbott1827 for her experience and stories that moved Machu Picchu to top priority. This is one bucket list worth destination!

It’s hard to believe our quick 3 days in Paris have come to an end, but we are excited for Portugal tomorrow! Come follow us as we showcase the @martinhal properties in Cascais and Lisbon! **And the quick story behind this shot: mom couldn’t row, row, row a boat at Versailles, so the 14 year old took over, while the youngest played navigator. A glorious spring day in Paris, but get ready for Portugal! #versailles #springtime #boatlife #familyfun #paris #exploring #adventuretime

On my site, I just published “3 Easy Day Trips from Paris.” No car? No problem! All of my picks can be reached by public transportation. 🚉The link is in my profile.👆🏼 The Grand Terrace in the gardens of Château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye was designed by legendary French landscape architect, André Le Nôtre, for King Louis XIV. From this spot, you can see the Seine River, as well as the whole of western Paris, including the Eiffel Tower and La Défense. Just 30 minutes from Paris, Saint-Germain-en-Laye feels so close, yet so far removed from the city. 🤴🏻🇫🇷👸🏻 *********************************** #paris #travelfrance #traversefrance #iledefrance #saintgermain #saintgermainenlaye *********************************** 📷: @artnoshoot

A new post is up on the blog. Yep, that’s me. And yep, I’m flying. I tried indoor skydiving recently at @iflyportland in Tigard, Oregon (in the Tualatin Valley, Portland’s beautiful backyard). And I LOVED it. Look at that smile! It was easy, big fun and really not scary. As I read recently: For those who want to fly, the lack of wings is only a detail. I’m betting you could do this too. I found a hiking buddy! One thing I loved about northern Argentina and Chile was that even though there were many stray dogs running around, they were always fed well and happy…sort of like this little guy who found me on the trail. ⠀ ..⠀ #atacamadesert #chile #chilegram #mansbestfriend #mustlovedogs #bestdogever #muttsofinstagram #hiking #dogwalk #valleyofthemoon

Almost time to leave Scotland and I have to mention what a warm reception we received from the people here. They were always friendly and went out of their way to help us, have a chat, or make our kids feel welcome. And their sense of humor…🤣 It’s a beautiful country, but the people really made it shine. Thank you!

MOTHER-DAUGHTER ROAD TRIP – Every summer we take a mother-daughter road trip and we both look forward to this special time together (yes, even at 13.) I hope it is a tradition we can continue but I know it gets harder the older they get so start early! . We are kicking off this year’s trip in Nashville (aka @visitmusiccity ). Then we are continuing on to Memphis, Birmingham, Montgomery, and Atlanta. . Since we will be spending a lot of time visiting Civil Rights sights, we wanted to spend today just exploring Nashville with no set agenda. We are seeking out street art and eating our way through the city (follow along on Stories). It is hot and humid and Hannah has a bit of a cold so we don’t have our usual energy. Luckily the hop on- hop off bus is giving us an easy way to explore the city, rest our legs and cool off in the AC! ☀️ 😎 🚌 🎸 #visitmusiccity #nashvillelove #whatliftsyou #nashvillegulch #takeyourkidseverywhere
