Female Travelers over Forty You Need to Follow on Instagram

Let’s face it, Instagram is filled with fresh-faced ingenues in flowing dresses looking wistfully into the sunset (for the fourth time this week, because #blessed) and obsessing over their rainbow-colored lattes in the newest cat cafe in Tokyo. Ladies, keep doing what you do as Instagram obviously loves you, but after joining the over forty club earlier this year I’m drawing my travel inspiration from a different set of women. Members of Generation X, baby boomers and beyond; these globetrotting gals prove that you don’t have to hang up your floppy hat and put away your sense of adventure once the clock strikes forty. Whether they are balancing a love of travel with a 9-to-5 corporate job, traveling with kids in tow or making the most of their golden years; these women show that travel just gets better after forty. On my site, I just published “3 Easy Day Trips from Paris.” No car? No problem! All of my picks can be reached by public transportation. 🚉The link is in my profile.👆🏼 The Grand Terrace in the gardens of Château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye was designed by legendary French landscape architect, André Le Nôtre, for King Louis XIV. From this spot, you can see the Seine River, as well as the whole of western Paris, including the Eiffel Tower and La Défense. Just 30 minutes from Paris, Saint-Germain-en-Laye feels so close, yet so far removed from the city. 🤴🏻🇫🇷👸🏻 *********************************** #paris #travelfrance #traversefrance #iledefrance #saintgermain #saintgermainenlaye *********************************** 📷: @artnoshoot

MOTHER-DAUGHTER ROAD TRIP – Every summer we take a mother-daughter road trip and we both look forward to this special time together (yes, even at 13.) I hope it is a tradition we can continue but I know it gets harder the older they get so start early! . We are kicking off this year’s trip in Nashville (aka @visitmusiccity ). Then we are continuing on to Memphis, Birmingham, Montgomery, and Atlanta. . Since we will be spending a lot of time visiting Civil Rights sights, we wanted to spend today just exploring Nashville with no set agenda. We are seeking out street art and eating our way through the city (follow along on Stories). It is hot and humid and Hannah has a bit of a cold so we don’t have our usual energy. Luckily the hop on- hop off bus is giving us an easy way to explore the city, rest our legs and cool off in the AC! ☀️ 😎 🚌 🎸 #visitmusiccity #nashvillelove #whatliftsyou #nashvillegulch #takeyourkidseverywhere

  1. Thank you for the list – I am always happy to see ladies my own age doing great things in the world! I’m also a 40yo (solo) traveler and hiker, I hope more women will find encouragement to go and see the world!
    Happy travels,
    Ioanna (A Woman Afoot)

  2. Well… I humbly nominate myself. I’m 43, and I am a solo wheelchair accessible travel blogger. I can’t walk at all due to MS, and usually my only company is my electric scooter. You can find me on Instagram at @sylvia_longmire :).

    • Syliva, I’ve started following you and as a fellow female veteran you are an inspiration.

  3. Thanks for sharing this list of female travelers over 40. A couple of these Instagram accounts I already follow but I’ll be adding the others, too. After all, you can never have too much travel inspiration!

  12. I follow quite a few of these women on Insta – so heartening to see all of these travelers living their best life!

  13. This just goes to show, age is just a number – As somebody who’s felt his age more while I’ve been at home just proves to me traveling really does keep us young. And these women are an inspiration not just other females but to anybody who wants to travel as they get older.

  14. Very inspiring list of women who are doing what I hope I can also continue to do when I’m older. Thanks for sharing, will check out their Instagram handles 🙂

  15. That’s so great! I agree with Amit. Age really is just a number. My mother in law is 60 and she has more energy than both me and my husband combined. Travelling is not just for twenty somethings!

  16. Great list! Lovely to see a lot of these awesome ladies I’ve had the privilege to meet during my travels. Sarah, Carol, Alison, Tamara…love them all!
