Choosing the right city hotel can be a bit like finding the holy grail.I like a hotel that puts me within easy walking distance to major sights and restaurants, a comfortable room, friendly staff and a touch of personality. In Denver’s LoDo district there is a hotel where style, service and comfort blend seamlessly.
This is the Maven Hotel.
Anchoring the Dairy Block District, the Maven Hotel has one of the best locations in Denver. A quick walk takes you to the restaurants and shops of LoDo and the River Arts North District, and Union Station is only a few blocks away making the Maven convenient for anyone traveling by train through Denver. Baseball fans take note, the Maven is the closest hotel to Coors Field (and also offers game day specials).
Upon arrival I immediately knew I was going to like the Maven. The lobby sets the overall tone of the hotel, classic urban style with an unexpected twist. A giant hand appears to come out of the ceiling and points the way to reception. Check in was quick and courteous, informing me of the complimentary cocktails at Poka Lola Social Club as well as the complimentary shuttle on offer. Common spaces throughout the hotel are far from boring. Unique art pieces dot the hallways and unexpected patterns on the walls greeted me as I exited the elevator. This is a hotel that is seriously Instagrammable.
The perfect 3 day itinerary for Denver
Art hotels can sometimes sacrifice comfort for style, but that isn’t the case at the Maven Hotel. Rooms are compact but thoughtful design and floor to ceiling windows makes them feel quite spacious. Concrete ceilings and modern art provide an urban edge softened by unique touches like a hanging woven chair (seriously, how fun is that?) and a supremely comfortable king size bed. The smart design extends to the bathroom which features a wide quartz vanity and a huge shower stocked with luxury toiletries. In-room pour over coffee makes mornings a bit easier.
As I had already made dinner plans with friends I was a bit bummed that I didn’t get to try out the menu at Kachina (I was kicking myself after walking by the kitchen on my way out watching the chefs make empanadas by hand), but I at least had had an into to their flavors with a salsa trio I enjoyed with my happy hour libations from Poka Lola Social Club. A complimentary cocktail is offered for every guest at the Maven Hotel and the drinks at Poka Lola will make any cocktail lover swoon. The Islander, a whimsical gin cocktail with notes of passionfruit and peach served in a fish-shaped tiki glass, was one of the best drinks I’ve had in recent memory.
Style, service, comfort and location; this art hotel checks off all the right boxes for a city break. The Maven is my new home for mile high style in Denver.
I was graciously hosted by The Maven Hotel but as always all opinions are my own.
