As a travel blogger I’m most comfortable behind the camera, capturing my experiences in whatever city I’m in. Even when I travel with my husband and frequent Instagram husband photography assistant Steve, we may get a few pictures of me but rarely any with the both of us. On a recent trip to Washington DC for our 14th wedding anniversary I knew just how I wanted to celebrate. Pictures of the two of us, in one of our favorite cities just as spring was in full bloom.
It would be perfect.
So I contacted the good folks at Flytographer to make this happen.
Flytographer helps capture your special travel memories by connecting you with over 350 photographers around the world. Each photographer is carefully selected by the Flytographer team ensuring you not only get beautiful photos but have a fun experience with a local who really knows the destination. Photo-shoots start at $250 for 30 minutes and the whole process is really quite easy. Choose your destination and photographer (or have Flytographer suggest one for you, they’re all great!) and submit an inquiry. Soon a Shoot Concierge will contact you to set up the details of your photo shoot; place, time and what you’re looking to get out of your Flytographer experience and get everything arranged.
Since we were in Washington DC during cherry blossom season(which gets horribly crowded) we decided to forgo trying to get pictures among the monuments on the National Mall. Our photographer Elisenda suggested the charming streets of Georgetown instead and away from the hustle of downtown we practically had this historic neighborhood to ourselves. Elisenda met us at a local cafe and her warm personality immediately put us at ease, the entire afternoon it felt like we were hanging out with an old friend who just happened to be snapping pictures of us. Elisenda was very easy to work with, striking a perfect balance of giving direction and capturing those candid moments as we walked through Georgetown. The entire evening was fun and relaxed and was a great way to explore a part of DC we hadn’t been to before.
The hardest part of the whole process was waiting 5 days to receive my pictures. Knowing how much fun we had and Elisenda’s great eye I was super excited when I received my email containing all of my digital images (you can print them on your own or there is an option to purchase prints). My inspiration for the shoot were happiness, fun and love; and I think Elisenda’s pictures really capture the spirit of our weekend in DC. As I scrolled through each one seemed better than the last. The only question I had was “Why hadn’t I done this sooner?”.
While Flytographer is especially popular with couples and newlyweds; it’s also great for families, groups of friends, solo travelers or anyone really. As a huge believer in experiences over things coming home with the memories captured by Flytographer make a much better souvenir than anything I could buy. From start to finish I loved my entire Flytographer experience and will definitely be using them again and again.

Interesting idea! I love it when you can arrange to have a photographer with you when you travel. It’s something that I’ve been toying with too actually, offering local guided tours with photography thrown in too, although I haven’t really started on it yet. Something I need to look into more seriously.
Brianna says
Good luck if you decide to go for it!

What a clever idea! It would save Guy being my Instagram Husband on a regular basis! Love your pics!
Brianna says
Thanks Kim we had a great time!

What a great idea. My husband will rarely pose with me, though, so I’m not sure I could get him onboard with this. It’s actually a good idea for solo travellers. When I was in France last week, it was so hard to get any photos of myself as I can’t manage a good selfie for the life of me.

These pictures are great. What a great idea to organize a photographer to meet you where you are. I’ve heard of Flytographer, but did not really know that much. Your experience and pictures are evidence that they are great. Will check them out.

I love the thought of having a personal photographer follow me around for a day! I have seen other companies like this in Europe so good to know there are options in the USA too!

Flytohrapher operates in cities around the world so you’re covered almost anywhere you go!

What a great service! I know how you feel when we travel I am the one taking the photos and I am rarely in any pictures as a result. We are on the move again next week, I am going to have to find out if we can arrange a session in one the cities that we will be visiting.
Brianna says
I’d love to see how your pictures turn out!

What a fantastic idea! I feel like everyone has designated “photographer” in the group that always gets left out of pictures. I agree, this is better than any souvenir you could buy in a store. I hope you’ve got some of these framed somewhere.

Still trying to figure out my favorites!

This is such a cool idea. I never thought of having a family photo shoot during a vacation. Two birds with one stone. I like it!!!

It was such a relief to have someone else behind the camera and I just loved the results!

Great pics. Photoshoots are always a good idea! Convenient service but a lot of other sites exists that give you access to the same photographers (or better) for cheaper…. and the local photographer gets paid fairly, like on gokyma.com for example or onetwoonethree. For bloggers, I’m pretty sure they do affiliates too ha 🙂
