I recently returned to Washington DC for a convention. One of my all-time favorite cities, there is always something new for me to check out whenever I visit Washington DC. I’d heard great things about the Wharf District, a new development along Washington DC’s southwest waterfront and wanted to see what this neighborhood had in store. Once I learned that the Wharf was also home to DC’s newest luxury hotel, the InterContinental Washington DC, I was sold.

The Intercontinental enjoys a prime position the The Wharf District Washington DC’s newest neighborhood. Open since October 2017 the Wharf is home to a beautiful promenade along the Potomac; stages, gathering areas, the Capital Yacht Club and the Anthem (Washington DC’s prime concert venue) offer DC locals and visitors plenty to do. Boat, kayak and paddleboard rentals will be available in the summer while a waterside ice rink is a perfect winter activity. A growing number of restaurants, helmed by Top Chef alums some of Washington DC’s best loved chefs ( I highly recommend Del Mar by acclaimed chef Fabio Trabocchi) and DC favorites like Dolcezza and Shake Shack make the Wharf a great destination for any foodie.
Entering the InterContinental Washington DC I was immediately greeted by the front desk staff whom I found to be friendly and professional throughout my stay. The check in process was thorough, yet efficient, with the staff thanking me for being an IHG Rewards Club Member and offering suggestions for my time in DC. I was immediately impressed with the decor of the lobby. Natural light filled the space and highlighted gold and cream accents, the overall effect was modern, understated and elegant.
I was upgraded to a waterfront corner room which boasted sweeping views of the Potomac as well as the Jefferson and Washington Memorials in the distance. The understated elegance of the common spaces extended to my room which was anchored by a supremely comfortable king sized bed. Small touches were not overlooked, with plenty of access to outlets and USB ports. My favorite feature? An in room Nespresso that makes mornings a whole lot easier.
Sadly I did not get an opportunity to try the InterContiental’s restaurant Kith and Kin on this trip. Helmed by Top Chef Kwame Onwuachi, Kith and Kin offers up a creative spin on Afro-Caribbean flavors. The InterContinental will also feature a rooftop pool and a spa that I will definitely have to check out for my next stay at the Wharf. The InterContinental Washington DC is an exciting addition to the DC luxury hotel scene and I can’t wait to see what else they have in store.
