Home to political movers and shakers, a vibrant cultural community and a dynamic culinary scene it’s no surprise that Washington DC is a city I gladly find myself returning to time and time again. When I visit Washington DC I have stayed in everything from airbnbs and basic corporate hotels to creative and quirky boutique hotels. I’ve also had the opportunity to experience some of Washington DC’s finest luxury hotels. Whether you want a stay with a bit of history, great design and service or you want to pamper yourself at one of the best spas in the country there is a luxury hotel for every taste. I haven’t had a chance to visit all of the luxury hotels in Washington DC (a long list I am more than happy to keep researching for you guys ) but these five-star properties are ones I’ve personally experienced and can highly recommend.

Few hotels in Washington DC have as much history as the Willard. Just two blocks from the White House the soaring marble lobby of the Willard has been hosting politicos and presidents since Abraham Lincoln and since 1847 countless deals have been brokered over mint juleps at the Round Robin Bar. With design elements inspired by the White House the rooms at the Willard are a classically luxurious escape.
The Fairmont Washington DC
Perhaps the hotel I return to the most is the Fairmont Washington DC. The Fairmont’s location is one of the best in the city; within easy reach of the restaurants and shops of Dupont Circle and Georgetown as well as being convenient to the museums and monuments of the National Mall all while being an oasis from the tourist fray. Decor at the Fairmont is equally modern and timeless, and the comfort of the spacious rooms and suites are only surpassed by the gracious service of the staff.
Ritz Carlton Washington DC
Perhaps no other name is more synonymous with luxury than Ritz Carlton and the DC property definitely lives up to the reputation. Five star service compliments the Ritz’s contemporary decor, with every need anticipated and taken care of effortlessly. With bottomless mimosas and friend chicken Benedict brunch at the Ritz’s West End Bistro may be the best way to spend your Sunday.
The Mandarin Oriental Washington DC
The Mandarin Oriental Washington DC has an East-meets-West zen that offers up a peaceful retreat from the hustle of the beltway. Many of the Mandarin Oriental’s rooms have sweeping views of the Tidal Basin and the Jefferson Memorial but what really sets the Mandarin Oriental apart is its Four-Star 10,000 sq. foot spa that boasts a 50 foot heated pool with one of the best views in DC. Treatments at the spa are inspired by eastern medicine and leave you thoroughly pampered.
Intercontinental Washington DC The Wharf
Washington DC’s newest neighborhood is also home to one of DC’s newest luxury hotels, the Intercontinental Washington DC The Wharf. The Wharf waterfront district is home to the Anthem (Washington’s premier concert venue); as well as a promenade lined with Top Chef helmed restaurants, bars and the Capitol Yacht Club. Decor at the Intercontinental is understated and elegant, and each spacious room is equipped with a Nespresso to make mornings a little easier.

I haven’t stayed at too many DC hotels to be honest, even though my son went to Georgetown! Love the look of all of these hotels and my son now lives in Arlington, so I might have to test them all and get back to you!
