Set back within the residential Vieux Carre section of the French Quarter, the Maison DuPuy is a historic hotel with a casually gracious sense of hospitality. Located on the corner of Rue Toulouse and Rue Burgundy (pronounced “bur-GUN-dy” as any New Orleans native will quickly point out), the Maison DuPuy is located only 2 blocks from Bourbon Street, making it close enough to party (if that’s your thing) while being just enough out of the way to be quiet and relaxed. As with the French Quarter itself, the buildings that harbor the Maison DuPuy have seen many changes. Originally an industrial area these buildings once housed the nation’s first cotton press and later a number of sheet metal shops. After years as a historic residential area in 1973 the DuPuy brothers combined five large ornate townhouses and opened the doors to the Maison DuPuy Hotel.
The hotel’s brick exterior laced with wrought iron balconies gives little hint to what lies within. Upon arriving I was warmly greeted by the doormen but my eye was immediately drawn to what the Maison DuPuy is most known for- having the largest and arguably one of the prettiest courtyards in the French Quarter. Palm trees and tropical folliage frame the three tired marble fountain serves as the courtyard’s centerpiece and guests can enjoy the swimming pool and outdoor dining during warmer weather.
While the decor was fairly standard the room itself was very spacious with a large window overlooking the courtyard. Of utmost importance the bed, fitted with a downy soft pillowtop mattress, was supremely comfortable (which let’s face it, in a city as vibrant as New Orleans about the only time you’re going to spend in your room is when you’re asleep). The hotel will be undergoing a major renovation in the summer of 2015 and I’m excited to see what updates are in store for the rooms.
The Maison Dupuy’s restaurant, Bistreaux, offers up casual bistro fare with a few Creole specialties thrown in. Bistreaux, handsomely decorated with dark wood framing an accent mural of Follies Bergere, serves patrons from breakfast through dinner along with featuring happy hour specials and live music. Breakfast offerings such as raspberry almond croissant french toast and Eggs Boudreaux are popular with hotel guests and I had the chance to stop by for a post Mardi Gras parade nibble at the bar.The bartender, affable and attentive, recommended a glass of Sangiovese that paired perfectly with the restaurant’s lamb bolognese.
Where the Maison DuPuy shines is its people. I was warmly greeted with a genuine smile and a hello from every single staff member I encountered while the concierge and front desk were extremely helpful with all of my inquiries. This welcoming spirit, along with its quiet location in the heart of the French Quarter, makes the Maison DuPuy a great option for your next stay in New Orleans.
I was graciously hosted by The Maison DuPuy Hotel and The New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau but as always all opinions are my own. For more information please visit their website at www.neworleanscvb.com or on Facebook(New Orleans), Twitter (@NewOrleans) and Instagram (NewOrleansCVB).

I always think the key to a good hotel stay isn’t how shiny or luxurious it is, but rather it’s how friendly the staff and good the service. Throw in a bit of boutique and culture and it sounds perfect! Would love to visit for Mardi Gras one day, so will keep this place in mind, certainly my sort of pad!
Brianna says
Its a great place for Mardi Gras, within walking distance of everything but out of the way enough that you can get a good night’s rest!

Gotta admit how unique and eclectic art from NOLA is. One will recognize the cultural difference between other southern states compared to NOLA. Aesthetically, the state would seem like it’s a European country trapped in America. It’s definitely in my travel bucket list. Great post Brianna!
Brianna says
I completely agree, New Orleans is a European city that thinks it’s int the Caribbean but just happens to be in the US.
Randolph Hoover says
I had just stumbled upon this again, I will try to visit that place around late January-February. Any advice on what to expect of this place? Where are the key spots that you have visited? Especially the food you ate. Thank you in advance for the reply Brianna.
Brianna says
The French Quarter in New Orleans is fabulous and you must get beignets at Cafe du Monde!
