How is it that the second month of 2020 is already behind us? Winter is over halfway through (though here in Virginia Beach it’s been fairly rainy and mild) and the blooms of spring are just a few weeks away. After a quiet January hibernating I’ve started to get back out on the road. Let’s take a look at what I did this past month.

Weekend Trip #1- The Omni Homestead
My first trip of the year was a romantic weekend with Steve, and since I’m always looking to explore more of Virginia we decided to head out to the Blue Ridge Mountains for a stay at the Omni Homestead. In business since 1766, the Homestead is the grand dame of the Blue Ridge and has welcomed 23 presidents (as well as countless celebrities, dignitaries and regular folk). We had a fabulous weekend of skiing, spa, getting dressed up and just relaxing.
Weekend Trip #2 – Gulf Shores, Alabama
Just one week after my getaway to the Homestead I boarded a plane to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama to meet up with my friend Tamara ( she’s got a great family travel blog at We 3 Travel and just launched a new site for us Gen X ladies Your Time to Fly). Tamara and I have been friends for years but this was our first time traveling together. This was my first time visiting Alabama’s Gulf Coast and I was surprised in the best ways possible. White sand beaches, epic sunsets, fantastic restaurants and no crowds make for a perfect girl’s trip. This definitely won’t be my last time to Gulf Shores (keep an eye out for my post on some of my favorite things to do here).
Things to Know
By now I’m sure you’ve read or heard about the Coronavirus (COVID-19), it’s quick spread and it’s effect on travel. Should you cancel your trip? I can’t answer that for you but I would keep yourself informed on current advisories and take precautions, especially if you or someone close to you has a compromised immune system. While I work in healthcare this is not my area of expertise. I would check the CDC or take a look at this article by Dr. Nadine White, a physician and travel blogger at The Sophisticated Life.
