They say that April showers bring May flowers, but it seems like the rain stuck around a whole lot longer this year. Here in Virginia Beach it seems like it rain or threatened to rain almost every day this month, but despite that May turned out to be one of my best months yet this year. So what did I do this past month?
I played hometown tourist
I’ve always said the spring is one of the best times to visit Virginia Beach and the first weekend of May I got to welcome some of my best travel blogging buds from Travel Mindset including Kristen from Camels & Chocolate, Jade from Vagabond3, Keryn from Walking On Travels, and another Kristen from Border Free Travel. We enjoyed a weekend exploring Virginia Beach’s culinary scene, picking strawberries, checking out vintage war planes at the Military Aviation Museum and sampling the wares from my favorite craft breweries.
Round two of hometown tourist came at the end of the month with a visit from Steve’s Mom which always involves a trip to the Virginia Beach Boardwalk and a hunt for salt water taffy.
I went on a cruise
The thought of cruising never really appealed to me but after spending a few days on the brand new Norwegian Bliss I am now a convert. This large ship can accommodate up to 4,000 guests and never felt crowded. Over 20 restaurants, a world class spa and did I mention there was a go-kart track on board? The Norwegian Bliss is ship we’ve all been waiting for.
I discovered Miami is not just for the party crowd
It’s been along time where I’ve traveled somewhere and had absolutely no plans. My best friend Amy had joined me on the Bliss cruise and we planned a couple of days in Miami to chill. We skipped the party scene for spa time, amazing food and lots of time at the beach. Our home was the cozy boutique hotel Circa 39 one block from the ocean on Collins Avenue and it was the perfect spot for a relaxing girls getaway. This was my first time in Miami and certainly won’t be my last.
Things I’m loving
I made an apricot paglava (a Georgian pastry that is part baklava, part strudel and 100% delicious) from Taste of Persia: A Cook’s Travels Through Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, and Kurdistan
These minimalist sandals from Nisolo are my go-to summer sandal.
