Ah, few things in life offer more freedom than a few days off, four wheels and the lure of the open road.
Folks, I’m talking about the road trip.
For me this takes me straight back to my twenties; aimlessly wandering the two lane roads of Pennsylvania in search of the perfect diner, quick jaunts to the beaches of Sarasota from my Navy barracks in Orlando and that one time in rural North Carolina a kind stranger fixed my broken down 1984 Ford Tempo and would accept nothing more than a bag of beef jerky( a story for another day). My best road trip memories come from the short time I lived in Las Vegas; weekends spent driving to the Grand Canyon and Zion National Parks marveling at the beautifully barren landscape with the windows rolled down and Tom Petty blaring from the radio. From exploring theย turquoise waters of the Florida Keys over Highway 1 to the enormous glacier carved landscapes of Alaska’s Seward Highway some of the most magnificentย views in the United States are best experienced with the GPS turned off and a good friend in the passenger seat.
Plan the perfect California road trip.
To help you prepare for your next road trip adventure I’ve partnered with a few of my closest blogger friends for a blog hop.ย Whatโs a blog hop? Itโs an event where bloggers get together to write content associated with a specific theme โ in our case, โMy Perfect Roadtrip Bagโ โ and YOU get to move from one blog to another to read our posts and enter to win our giveaway! More on that at the end of this post. Without further ado here is what you’ll find in my perfect road trip bag. (Disclosure-my list contains affiliate links. If you make a purchase I get a little bit of dinero in return)
One of the main things you need for any trip is a great bag. I’ve always been a huge fan of Travelon products and their Travelon Anti-Theft React Medium Crossbody Bag is perfect for a weekend trip or as aย carryon. Both the bag and the strap are made with slash proof construction, locking zippers deters thefts while RFID blocking technology in the organization slots helps protect your personal data. Disclosure-Travelon has also graciously donated some items in our giveaway.
I am not someone who operates well when hungry so I always have a little snack tucked away somewhere. I’m particularly fond ofย KIND Healthy Grains Granola Bars, which are gluten free and made with all natural ingredients you can actually pronounce. With flavors like peanut butter dark chocolate and maple pumpkin seedย your taste buds will be happy as well.
Steve likes to handle the driving duties when we hit the road together which leaves some time for me to catch up on my reading.Whether you likeย the ease of aย Kindleย or prefer the feel of a book in your hands
The Kindness Diaries: One Man’s Quest to Ignite Goodwill and Transform Lives Around the Worldย is one to add to your reading list. Author Leon Legothetis sets off on the ultimate road trip – a round the world adventure on his vintage yellow motorbike surviving solelyย on the kindness of strangers. This is a read that will bolster your faith in the goodness of humanity.
One of my travel wardrobe staples is theย Eddie Bauer Daisy Wrap,ย a super soft lightweight layer that can easily be dressed up or down. I own several of these wraps in different colors and love that they are quick drying and chicย but the best part is that they never wrinkle. Ever. I mean seriously, you can have it balled up at the bottom of your bag for a week, pull it out and look amazing. Speaking of looking amazing on the road every woman needs a pair of fabulous sunglasses. I suggest these retro glamย Ray-ban Jackie Ohh Sunglassesย which will protect your peepers from UV rays while upping your style. For any trip longer than four hours you can usually find me in a pair of compression socks to help prevent swelling and reduce muscle fatigue. I know, I know, compression socks don’t exactly have the coolestย reputation but the fun prints and bright colors fromย Sockwellย will change your mind and your feet will thank you.
I try to keep a fairly streamlined beauty routine on a daily basis but simplify even further when on the road.ย Philosophy’sย Purity Made Simple Facial Cleansing Clothsย thoroughly remove all of your make up and are gentle enough to use around your eyes. When I travel I look for multi-taskers;ย NARS The Multipleย in Maldives gives a fresh glow toย eyes, cheeks and lips with just a few swipes. To extend my hairstyle more than a day (and because I’m still kind of awkward when it comes to styling tools) I am a huge fan of dry shampoo.ย Batiste Dry Shampooย ย gets the job done beautifully and is inexpensive to boot.

Brianna says
Thanks Kelly, I love all of the Kind bars too!
Carol says
I have driven to Florida and back at least 7 times, but most of them were when I was a child. I don’t remember any special things that my parents packed. Mostly I was content to lie on the floor in the back seat with pillows, or hang my head out the window. Things you’d never be allowed to do now.
Brianna says
I remember riding in the back of the station wagon as a kid- you’d never see that now!
Kayla Kiteley says
Books and food are a must for me on any trip! These items are something I bring on every road trip.
Brianna says
Sounds like we’re cut from the same cloth Kayla.
Audrey says
I’ve been looking for a good dry shampoo! I am going to try this one! Thank you!
Brianna says
Dry shampoo is a lifesaver! Please let me know how you like it.
Abbe Brown says
I love cleansing cloths too! They’re a definite must have for not just removing makeup but assorted messes and stickiness that can happen when on the road. Going to have to try Philosophyโs Purity Made Simple Facial Cleansing Cloths for sure!
Brianna says
They are a great option for being on the road, very easy to use and no chance of a gooey mess in your bag.

Brianna says
Great choice Nicole.
Lauren says
Those Kind bars are awesome! I always pack some sort of snack or granola bar – traveling as a vegan, it’s always good to be prepared with back-up food in case I can’t find anything!
A.M. says
From the Casual Travelist’s bag, I pretty much want to pick everything but since I have to choose only 1… it’s the Facial Cleansing Cloths. I have really oily skin (and acne, etc.) so I can not be doing anything and feel gross.
Brianna says
I really love the Purity cloths too, they leave my face feeling clean but not overly dried out like some products can.
Katie @ Domestiphobia says
I’ve actually always wanted to try compression socks! Sitting at my desk all day at home, I’m thinking it might be worth it… But it’d be even cooler to sport them on a road trip!
Brianna says
Katie, these socks from Sockwell are a godsend. They are like a bunch of tiny angels hugging your feet. I love the different colors and patterns too, cute enough to use as boot socks.

Brianna says
Good luck with the drawing! Travelon has a wide vareity of bags, give them a look.
Stephen Lioy says
I’m with you on snacks as a necessity – hungry and lost is no way to be even with good friends. Rather than the Kindle, though, I’d say an mp3 source of some sort. Music is one of the defining points of a road trip for me, and there are still songs I can hear that remind me distinctly of a road trip I took waaaaay back in the day.
Brianna says
I agree on the music Stephen but I challenge you to find any better driving music than Tom Petty.
Stephen Lioy says
Haha.. only thing I can think of is a special case: the music of a band you en route to seeing live for the first (or tenth, I guess it still works) time. Nothing to get more amped on a pre-concert road trip!
Brianna says
touche Stephen, touche.
Milosz Zak says

Alouise says
I’d definitely pack some Kind Bars, and a few other healthy and road-trip friendly snacks and water. It reduces the chance of me being hangry when I’m driving, or me wanting to stop off at a fast food place to eat (which will only make me feel gross and not very road trip savvy).
Brianna says
No one operates well when hangry! I know I’ve made some poor food choices if I’ve let myself get too hungry.
