I’ll be honest, I’ve never been much of a cruiser. The majority of my time at sea was during my time in the US Navy deployed on an aircraft carrier with cramped quarters, military-grade food and 5,000 of my closest friends. With that in the back of my mind the thought of cruising just didn’t appeal to me but over the past few years I’ve had several friends rave about their trips with Norwegian Cruise Lines so when I got the opportunity to set sail on the Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian’s newest ship, I just had to see what all the excitement was about.
I was graciously hosted by Norwegian Cruise Lines to preview the Bliss, but as always all opinions are my own.
I was invited to be a part of the inaugural sailing of the Bliss on a two day cruise from Miami and I was blown away by what I experienced on board. Thoughtful design, food and drinks to satisfy every palate and countless activities and entertainment-if this is what the Norwegian Cruise life is about then sign me up!
The Norwegian Bliss will be sailing Alaska, Mexico and the Caribbean and really, you can’t go wrong with any of these destinations. Here are a few reasons why I fell in love with the Bliss.
Luxurious Design
The first thing that struck me when I boarded the Norwegian Bliss was it’s design, from common spaces to staterooms the overall feel was elegant yet approachable. The centerpiece of the ship’s interior is 678 Ocean Place featuring a 3 story lighted staircase and gorgeous chandelier, both of which changed colors. Comfortable seating nooks and thoughtfully curated art brought in elements of my favorite boutique hotels.
I stayed in a mini-suite, a 250 square foot cabin featuring a balcony and a supremely comfortable queen size bed. The layout was well thought out with plenty of space, storage and additional seating. As a frequent traveler I especially loved the my suite had plenty of outlets and USB ports for charging devices as well as individual reading lights. I also have to take a minute to rave about the bathroom. I admit I wasn’t expecting anything special but I would book another cruise on the Bliss solely for the 7-jet Grohe shower, it really is that good.
Waterfront Views
The Bliss will be setting sail in some of the world’s most stunning destinations and with their new Waterfront area offers more unobstructed views than previous ships. The Waterfront also features outdoor dining and bars including Ocean Blue and the Cavern Club.
Racetrack at Sea
Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines! If there is anything the Norwegian Bliss takes seriously, it’s fun. Case in point- the largest go-kart racetrack at sea. I mean, how awesome is it to live out your Mario-Kart fantasies as you sail through the Caribbean or pass by glaciers in Alaska? The karts can reach speeds of up to 30 mph and it was an absolute blast
Water Slides
The pool is always one of the most popular places on a cruise ship and here again the Norwegian Bliss ups the ante. In addition to the deck pool the Bliss features 2 water slides; including the Ocean Loops, a thrilling vertical drop slide that loops out over the ocean. The Aqua Racer is a bit tamer but no less fun, taking riders on a twisting ride out over the ocean.
Food
With over 20 restaurants on board foodies are truly spoiled for choice. Head to Q Smokehouse for Texas-style barbecue with a side of live country music and be sure to save room for the decadent banana pudding. For globally inspired tapas check out Food Republic, which dishes out everything from Peruvian anticuchos to sushi. For something a bit more elegant Le Bistro serves up refined French classics, I highly recommend the seared scallops with cauliflower puree.
Drinks
On the Norwegian Bliss it’s always 5 O’clock somewhere. The Sugarcane Mojito Bar serves up over 10 kinds of mojitos (the spicy passionfruit mojito was a personal favorite) while the District offers over 24 craft beers on tap. Sip your favorite vintage at The Cellars Wine Bar or grab an expertly crafted cocktail from Maltings Whiskey Bar.
Broadway Style Shows
New to the Bliss is Havana! , a fast paced musical with fiery Latin dancing that is muy caliente. Also onboard to the Broadway favorite Jersey Boys featuring classics from Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
Mandara Spa
With a name like the Bliss you know this ship would have an amazing spa. Head to the Thermal Suite where you can take in relaxing ocean views from the heated loungers, detox in the salt crystal room or recharge in the snow room. For the ultimate pampering chose from a variety of spa treatments including massages, facials and even acupuncture.
The Haven
The Haven is Norwegian’s prestige hideaway on the Bliss and offers unparalleled luxury and service. Haven suites range from 400-1500 square feet with dedicated butler and concierge service and a private observation lounge. This is where you’ll find me the next time I’m on the Norwegian Bliss.

This looks so fun! Do you know what the ship is like for families? I’m curious if the Bliss would be a good option for us traveling with our kids. They loved the cruise we went on a couple of years ago.

Looks beautiful! I used to go on a cruise just about once a year and had a great time getting to see a bunch of places in a little bit of time.
