Washington DC is one of my favorite cities for a quick weekend break. History,a vibrant culinary scene, world-class museums and an endless array of festivals and events make DC a perfect place for me to return to again and again. What I hadn’t found though, was the perfect hotel. Each visit I’d stay in a different hotel but none really felt like a good fit; too stuffy, too small, too plain, too far away. Nothing was just right, I kind of felt a bit like Goldilocks. So when a friend recommended I stay at the Madison on my most recent visit I was intrigued, would this be the perfect fit?
Located only 5 blocks from the White House, the Madison is within easy reach of many of Washington DC’s most popular attractions. After a day of sightseeing it was easy to check out the capital’s hot dining scene and hip nightlife with some of DC’s most vibrant neighborhoods, including Dupont Circle and Penn Quarter, a short walk away. The hotel also has several metro stops close by putting all of Washington DC at your fingertips.
Immediately upon walking in I was impressed by the modern classic decor. Traditional and fresh, modern and comfortable; I felt that the hotel’s interior was representative of the new DC. Known as “Washington’s Correct Address”, the hotel has been an integral part of the city since it’s opening in 1963. President John F. Kennedy presided over the ribbon cutting of Washington’s original luxury hotel and every sitting president since has enjoyed a stay at the Madison.
Arriving to my room I was greeted by a delectable plate of cured meat and gourmet cheese as well as a bottle of Argentinian Chardonnay, the staff at the Madison really know how to make a girl feel welcome.
The rest of the room was just as inviting, with the modern classic aesthetic continued from the hotel’s main spaces. Bright and airy with calming neutrals (and pops of red here and there for a little fun), the room was a great place to recharge after a day exploring Washington. The bed was supremely comfortable and with no street noise I slept great. The bathroom was adequately sized, it was a tight fit for two to get ready in the morning but I was very impressed with the shower design-spacious with good pressure and not one bit of water escaped to collect on the bathroom floor. I hate when a half of my shower water ends up on the bathroom floor (it’s my number one hotel pet peeve) and I have to use several towels to mop it up. Kudos to the Madison for solving this ubiquitous hotel shower problem.
With a welcoming staff and design that’s characteristic of its downtown DC location this is a hotel I can see myself returning to time and again. The Madison may just be my correct address in Washington DC.
